15 of Downtown Raleigh's Best Coffee Shops

Every busy city runs on caffeine, and good ol' Oak City is no different. Whether you need a new meeting spot, a change of scenery from your office, or a midday recharge, Raleigh has plenty to offer in the form of locally-owned coffee shops. Here's a quick list of spots inside-the-beltline where you can get your fix and then some (in no particular order):

BREW COFFEE BAR

BREW's crown jewel is their iced nitro cold brew. What's that? Well, it's best summed up as a beverage that "cannot be described with words." Guess you'll have to stop by Seaboard Station to see for yourself.

THE MORNING TIMES

If there's something about exposed brick & the smell of freshly-ground coffee beans that make ya wanna read the newspaper, this is your spot. Enjoy a homemade bagel or pastry with your java in this Raleigh shrine's spacious yet cozy upstairs seating area.

42 & LAWRENCE

Nestled on the shiny ground floor of Raleigh's luxurious SkyHouse building, this retail home for Larry's Coffee embodies the modern, experimental coffeehouse. Draft lattes, coffee soda, kombucha & cold-pressed juice round out a way cool mad-scientist-turned-barista-like menu.

CAFÉ DE LOS MUERTOS

There's lots to be said for ultra-cool (Day of the Dead themed) vibes & an extra friendly staff. The Warehouse District refuge's rotating list of eclectic roasts & an awesome indoor-outdoor setup don't hurt either.

JUBALA COFFEE

This Hillsborough Street haven serves quality-driven coffee accompanied by a pretty outrageous breakfast menu. We're talking pimento/bacon on a scratch-made biscuit & gourmet waffles with the "toppings" cooked inside... are you drooling yet?

LUCETTEGRACE

Calling all macaroon lovers: The contemporary patisserie (French pastry shop) in the heart of downtown simply describes itself as "a starting point for your day, an escape in the middle, and a reward at the end." Check, check & check.

VIDERI CHOCOLATE FACTORY

Definitely one of the sweetest spots in Raleigh... and perhaps all of NC. Grab a shady spot on the Hidden Garden-esque patio & try the drinking chocolate or specialty mocha for a little taste of heaven in the Warehouse District.

LIQUID STATE

The building's exterior says it all -- coffee + wine + beer each make their home at this cozy spot on Hillsborough Street. A favorite hangout / study sanctuary for State students & locals alike, Liquid State shakes it up with "alternative offerings" like their very classy meat/cheese plate.

CUP A JOE

With arguably the best daily specials in town (think: "Milkshake Monday," "Wired Wednesday," etc.), Cup A Joe's two campus-convenient locations open early & close late to accommodate tired students & anyone else in need of that little extra kick to get moving.

JOULE COFFEE + TABLE

Experimental caffeinated beverages (pour-overs, matcha lattes, etc.) coffeehouse vibes, and in true Ashley Christensen fashion, plenty of finger-lickin' good eats. The craft coffee cocktails -- i.e. boozy cold brew -- also do not disappoint.

NIGHT KITCHEN BAKEHOUSE & CAFE

Few things are better than downing freshly-baked bread to even out a caffeine buzz. The Seaboard Station shop brews Equal Exchange coffee & espresso served with a side of feel-good neighborly vibes and savory eats.

YELLOW DOG BREAD CO.

Cookies & scones & biscuits, oh my! But it doesn't stop there... A Person Street neighborhood favorite, Yellow Dog specializes in baked goods but crushes it with just about everything they offer, including Slingshot Coffee Co. cold brew & other specialty beverages.

BENELUX COFFEE

Serving up "Raleigh Roasted" coffee & made-to-order Belgian waffles in Cameron Village, Benelux exudes cool vibes of the European cultures it's inspired by. The shop's larger-than-life coffee bean mural is also a sight to behold.

DEVOLVE MOTO

The aroma of ground coffee beans might be what lures you in, but the smell of leather & a welcoming atmosphere will make you want to stay. The Glenwood Avenue café / lifestyle shop hybrid offers everything from specialty lattes (try the honey-lavender) to local craft beer & ciders.

RALEIGH RAW CAFÉ

Raleigh Raw's signature "Crack Coffee" -- blended with coconut oil & grass-fed butter -- is all the rage, and they make a mean Matcha (lemonade, latte, or straight up) to boot. Cozy vibes, friendly baristas & a top-notch music selection give the café a real, unique swagger.
